Dr. Charles Owino Wahongo’s kind of politics evolves along Raila Odinga’s liberal democratic lines and he has a manifesto reflecting this, identifying unemployment as a public enemy number one.
He has laid out plans on how he intend to address it along with investment facilitations through various corporates, infrastructural development, food security which focuses on each household in Siaya County especially on food crop farming, cash crop farming with surplus to be exported to earn the county foreign exchange that will be used in other areas for development.
Charles Owino Wahongo the former Police Spokesman, talks so passionately about farming as the only way of fighting poverty. He believes that a child with food in the stomach has got the right esteem and stimulation to learn unlike the one without food in the stomach.
Once sworn in, Dr. Charles Owino Wahongo will focus his energy on Lake Kanyaboli where Siaya has enormous resource that hasn’t been harnessed to take care of all sectors within the county government.
He talks about Siaya having Fish Processing industry that will be generating an annual income of $4million which he believes will be enough to maintain our roads, pay our highly trained doctors with consultative services offered for free in Siaya Referral Hospital.
We shall have one of the largest bed capacity wards in Siaya to take care of all kinds of ailments that will be dealt with at the county level without going to KNH in Nairobi.
With Charles Owino Wahongo, we shall have 200 tractors per sub county in Siaya County that will be distributed per sub-location to help in tilling farms at a fordable cost.
This will boost food security as many people will just be farming selling their maize at the County Storage facility.
All our surplus maize will be Charles Owino Wahongo, while being interviewed at Lolwe Radio this morning, was faced with a common complaint by self-styled critics that Kenyan politicians all sound much the same in their manifestos but when elected they only accumulate wealth and leave without fulfilling their pledges. In his manifesto, Dr. Charles Owino Wahongo, alias, OBILA MAN GI NYOTA as Festus Amimo WA refers to him, has prepared a costings supplement, detailing how his election pledges would be funded just like Raila Amollo’s pledge to give unemployed youths Ksh6,000 stipends monthly for survival to control social crimes and reduce drug-abuse due to frustrations that are mostly informed to by lack of proper jobs. The supplement, by Raila Odinga has been researched and prepared thoroughly by economic scholars and practitioners.

Since it is impossible for everyone to take part in the policy-making process of a country, the people elect their representatives to act on their behalf.
It is a common perception that the public representatives would take care of the interests of the commoners and stand beside them through thick and thin. Thus once there was a trend of nominating party candidates based on their acceptance among the mass people.
Political parties preferred the leaders who always worked for the mass people of grassroots level. During that time lawyers, teachers, farmers, businessmen and people belonging to different walks of life irrespective of their professions and economic status could aspire to be a politician and contest in the polls.
And the ordinary voters also liked such candidates as they believed that the leaders who had sympathy towards public sufferings could voice their interests in the parliament. But unfortunately things began to change and now it seems that those good days of ideal politics have gone forever.
Almost all the candidates of the election are nominated following the preference of the top leaderships of the party. Leaders and activists of the rural areas hardly have any role in selecting their party candidates.
Due to the gradual diminution of ethics in politics money has started controlling everything. As a result a certain class of people – particularly businessmen and industrialists – is now dominating the whole election system and the parliament albeit there are logical questions regarding their acceptance among the common people.
The result is that the number of businessmen-turned-politicians is increasing in the country and they are making policy-related decisions. Certainly the businessmen have every right to take part in politics like other professionals of the country but the problem occurs when they want to create unethical influence on everyone and abuse the power of money to achieve their political aim. Like in Ugenya parliamentary race, some voters questioned ODM Candidate Daktari Daniel Odhiambo source of income.
What factors have aided the rise of businessmen in our politics? Is it because the political parties are increasingly dependent on businessmen for financing elections and their political programmes? If so, then how is this phenomenon shaping our overall state of governance and political culture? Let us dig a bit deep to find the answers of these questions.
Well, the history testifies that, of all the MPs elected in the 2013 General elections in only 10 percent were businessmen and industrialists.
In the first national parliamentary election of Kenya, the number of businessmen and industrialists reached 20 percent.
Though the rise in the number of businessmen in politics was 9 percent in 5 years but till then there were adequate lawmakers who were lawyers, teachers, farmers and social workers by profession.
In 2017 during the second national parliamentary election that was held during the new constitution, the rate of inclusion of businessmen in parliamentary politics increased to 30 percent.
This trend have trend increased the percentage of businessmen in national Assembly and County Assembly according to the research that I have Carried out.
The research was done by my team across all 47 counties in Kenya, Like in Siaya County, An MP aspirant of Ugenya Daniel Odhiambo is well known by splashing money all corner of the Constituency just to clinch the Seat.
Our main focus was to get in touch with the Voters across all over the country, like in Ugenya parliamentary race they said that Daktari Daniel Odhiambo have splashed more money just to win the seat,and that’s why most of the constituents were concern with Businessmen involvement in Politics.
Again, the question that strikes our mind is what are the reasons behind such significant rise in the number of businessmen in the parliament? Once a large number of our political leaders used to come from economically poor backgrounds, as a result their political thoughts were deeply oriented towards the ordinary people, and that is why they did not need to face any problem in defeating the political leaders who belonged to elite class of the society.
The educational institutions were the ultimate avenue for those who aspired to lead the nation and the leaders learnt their political lessons while fighting for people’s causes.
The major political events that set the stage for us to become independent were led by the politicians who began their journey as student leaders. Even in the past Siaya County Senator James Orengo and other student councils of different universities were considered as the platforms which gave birth to a whole generation of brave and patriotic political leaders.
Till then the top political leaders had to depend on the student and youth politics to find their desired leaderships. But things took a reverse turn as the military rulers invited businessmen in politics indiscriminately.
on others, and most regrettably, replication of the behaviour of military autocrats and Police who wielded power in the country for a good number of years has characterised the conduct of our political leaders.
It is really unfortunate that this form of irregularity continued even after the restoration of parliamentary politics because of the major political parties’ desperate attempt to capture state power by any means.
There was a time when businessmen used to seek blessings from the political leaders to conduct their businesses properly. Everyone knew that the businessmen contribute to the funds of the major political parties but they were out of direct politics.
Gradually the situation has changed. Many businessmen have opted to join politics formally and many of them have become ministers after being elected as MPs. This practice has been going on for over a long period of time which now has become a worrisome factor for our politics.
Political analysts observe that there are two reasons behind this. Firstly, the top political leaders of our country provide chance to the businessmen instead of their party leaders with a view to enriching their party fund as well as securing their personal benefits.
To cope with the increasing election expenditure, the political parties need to include businessmen in their team sacrificing their political beliefs.
Secondly, when the businessmen realise that they can ensure more benefits if they become Member of Parliament, they try desperately to get party ticket to contest the national parliamentary polls.
Most of them take the post of MPs as nothing but a designation to earn more money. They invest once in five years and make profit for the rest of the time. They exercise more power to obtain their personal objective.
Moreover, after being elected as a Member of Parliament, businessmen get special social status within a short period of time, which is often considered as a major concern for a nouveau riche. Thus the allegation of nomination business against some of the political parties has become a common phenomenon before every election.
When politics turns into a business for the politicians, they stop looking at the interests of the mass people and try to grab benefits as much as they can.
Certainly the mass people also cannot avoid their responsibility for creating such a situation. Political parties have found that the success rate of businessmen in electoral politics is much better than the candidates of other professions.
It is because businessmen can spend huge amount of money in the polls and many of the ordinary voters of our country cast their votes in favour of the rich politicians in exchange for money!
Here the question comes – have our politicians done enough to address the needs of the common people? Actually mass people specifically vulnerable families,in most cases, find no difference between a core politician and a businessman as nowadays many of the core politicians ignore ordinary people and run after their personal goals. Thus the people do not get proper service from them.
If the number of nomination papers rejected by Election Commission only due to the loan default charges against the aspirant candidates of eleventh national parliamentary election indicates to the fact that corrupt and gluttonous people are trying to become public representatives to use their position for changing their fate.
And the wealth statement of the aspirants provided with their affidavit submitted to the Election Commission has stunned mass people as they have found the reality is far different. Moreover Election Commission has fixed the upper limit of expenditure, but the political analysts have observed that many of the probable candidates have crossed that limit even before the formal beginning of the election campaign!
Mass people are going through such a situation due to excessive involvement of money in politics. It seems that anything and everything can be bought by dint of money and as a result more and more industrialists are getting interested in politics. The aftermath, who knows, might be very terrible.

Every Friday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer emphasises Manchester United have had a ‘good week’ in training. On the Saturday or the Sunday, one wonders what they were doing all week in training.
This is a consequence of a football club not prioritizing the football. Solskjaer has been a dead duck of a manager since the Liverpool drubbing and he has been allowed to continue regardless. United have taken four points from their last 21 in the Premier League. This was another unedifying humiliation.
Bruno Fernandes lay prone on his back when Joao Pedro rammed the clincher in. Solskjaer stood motionless, his hands stuffed into his pockets. The away end was already pockmarked by empty seats. Vicarage Road rocked to “Ole’s at the wheel”.
Those United supporters who remained wistfully sang, ‘Forever and ever’. Then a fourth went in. More turned towards the exit. The intrepid Solskjaer approached them at full-time and many booed him. Fernandes began remonstrating with some, urging them to direct their ire onto the players, and had to be pulled away by Juan Mata. Solskjaer apologetically held up his hands. That is all he could do.
The away end, raucous prior to kick-off, was swiftly silenced by another disasterclass. After Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester City, the Watford followers started a rendition of ‘Ole’s at the wheel’ and hardly abated. That was countered by United supporters loudly chanting Donny van de Beek’s name to the same tune of KC and the Sunshine Band’s ‘Baby Give It Up’ as he warmed up in the 35th minute. When it was only at 1-0.
When Van de Beek emerged for the second-half he was cheered as though he had scored. Then he gave them a goal to cheer, ghosting into the area from midfield to nod in Cristiano Ronaldo’s selfless lay-off. Van de Beek whipped up the away-dayers as he charged back into his own half.

Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Karanja Kibicho has denied the Kenyan government’s involvement in the hitches hampering the return of Lawyer Miguna Miguna into the country.
In submissions presented in court on Thursday, Kibicho insisted that the government has not issued any red alerts to bar the embattled lawyer from coming to Kenya.
“I confirm that no government agency has issued any so-called red alert to Air France and Lufthansa Group (operating as German Airlines) in relation to Miguna’s travel to Kenya,” Dr. Kibicho submitted.
PS Kibicho further advised Miguna to acquire his travel papers at the Kenya High Commission in Ottawa, Canada, to facilitate his entry into the country.
Miguna Miguna had vowed to return to Kenya on Tuesday, November 15th until he was denied boarding Air France in Berlin, Germany after going through all the required processes.
In an interview on the same day, Miguna while highlighting his plight in a foreign land, said that the red alerts issued by the government had made it impossible for him to travel to Kenya.
“The customer service who had already been notified of my arrival told me quite clearly before they started checking in, they had my picture and were waiting for me,” he insisted.
“We received the red alert this morning directing us that we don’t allow you to board,” he added.
High Court Judge Hedwig Ongudi on Friday, November 12, 2021, declined to issue orders sought by lawyer Miguna Miguna to facilitate his return to Kenya on grounds that it could not rely on speculations to grant the orders.
The court dismissed the application, noting that it cannot rely on speculation to grant the orders sought by Miguna Miguna.
“The case was filed prematurely without evidence and is therefore dismissed,” the court ruled.
The judge said that Miguna was to prove the existence of the red alerts and he was under obligation to prove those facts.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi and former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga on Wednesday moved to court to file a new petition seeking the rescinding of red alerts.
Havi noted that the alerts indicated that the matter is no longer an issue of conjecture and that the Kenyan government is knowingly denying Miguna entry into the country, as such they have a valid argument to support their petition.
